A nice weekend

I had a nice weekend. Spend the early part of Saturday with Shawn and spent the rest of the day with a girlfriend. We met at the gym and then proceeded to make two batches of cut out cookies. Betty Crocker's recipe is still the best. All totalled we made 126 cookies of different sizes and shapes. I took them into work today and everyone loved them.

Sunday was also nice. I enjoyed the extra hour of sleep and then went to church. Came home and did a few chores. Then spent a lazy afternoon at Shawn's. I even managed to get a nap in. There is nothing like taking a nap on a Sunday afternoon. Man, do I sound old or what??

We went to Shawn's parents for supper and then spent some time at the Legion. Shawn is the commander of the Sons of the American Legion. He had some paperwork that needed to get done, so I helped him with that. For me, it was kind of fun. It's always fun when you are ultimately not responsible.

Today was a very nice day weather wise, in the mid 60's. However, as is typical this time of year the weather can change just like that. Tomorrow the highs will just be in the high 30's. It will be cold for the Trick or Treaters. I wonder if I will see any? I only had a couple last year.

Tomorrow starts the hectic week at work. It is reporting time which means long hours of very detail work. Hopefully it will go smoothly. Fingers crossed.

Alive and well

After taking a several month break, I hope to get back into writing again.

Knitting update. I have done four projects for charity. 2 scarves and 2 stocking hats. I am now starting to think about knitting for Christmas presents. I have one item started and my mind is starting to race on how to use all of the yarn that I have accumulated over the last few months.

Last weekend I had fun morning. Shawn was busy, so decided to do something I have been meaning to do for quite a while and that is explore some of the yarn shops in the Minneapolis metro area. I went to 4 different shops. 2 in Minneapolis, 1 in St. Paul and 1 in White Bear Lake. Half the fun was getting to the different shops. It allowed me to see neighborhoods that I had never been to before and revisit one favorite one I hadn't been to in a while. I was really discplined too. I only bought yarn at 1 of the shops and that was some nice alpaca. I am completely in love with alpaca yarn. I love how soft it is.

Even though Christmas is still 2 months away, I find myself starting to gear up already. I hope to have my winter village unpacked and set-up this weekend. It certainly has been feeling like late fall, early winter the last couple of weeks with the tempatures. I also get to look forward to seeing my brother and niece who are visiting for Christmas. I haven't seen them in over a year.

Time for a rant. Idiot drivers in Minneapolis. It seems like in the last few weeks people have forgotten how to drive. All of sudden, where there are rarely back-ups and traffic issues, people are having accidents and the areas that traditional have issues are even worse because there are more accidents. The worst part it, there isn't any snow on the ground yet. What is it going to be like when the snow start flying.??? It is going to be very scary.

I have a fun late afternoon/evening planned. A friend and I are going to meet and workout at the gym. Then afterwards we are going to my house and we are going to make fall themed cutout sugar cookies. I like making pumpkin shaped sugar cookies for Halloween and sharing them at work. My friend is going to be some leaf and acorn shaped cookie cutters, so we will have a nice variety of shapes.

Time to go start enjoying the weekend!!

I am here, really I am

One thing about a boyfriend, he tends to take up much of my weekend free time and hence I have not had much time to update my blog.

I had a fun time this past Friday night at the Yarn Cafe. They had a pj party. Basically they open the store from 8 to midnight for those who pay $20 and then they serve appetiters, wine, lemonade and ice tea.

Then of course, here is the kicker, they have really good deals on yarn...that one just has to take advantage of. Of course, the catch is that you have to buy 4 skeens of yarn, but then you get 20% off, which is pretty good. I have bought yarn for 4 new projects. Two Christmas presents to be made, and a scarf and a belt for myself. The yarn for the scarf is alpaca and so soft and the belt yarn has a fun color pattern and texture to it. I will be curious to see how it turns out.

This weekend I finally head to Bismarck for the first time since Christmas. Bad me, bad me for not getting home sooner. Cost of gas...part of it...and I did get to Fargo twice in April and May.

First I have to survive the next 3 and a half days of work. I will be really busy because it is my reporting week. I will leave Friday at noon sharp and get into Bismarck around 6pm.

The reason for going home is my high school reunion. It will be interesting to see who comes back and how everyone has matured and changed. Shawn will be joining me and getting to see my hometown for the first time.

Time to watch a little Twins baseball and then go to bed. I need to be at work as early as I can tomorrow.

Joys of home ownership

This past week has been a lesson in home ownership.

First of all last Tues. I had to deal with a wasp nest that was being built right outside of my garage entrance. I discovered it Tues. morning when I was taking out garbage. On Tues. night I was looking for some moral support from Shawn, but in the end he sprayed it and saved the damsel in distress.

On Sat. the nest was knocked down. Hopefully they won't try coming back.

The next adventure started Sunday morning. After church and grocery shopping my parents and I were hanging out and I thought it would be a good time to get some laundry done. I went to the laundry room and found water on the floor. Uh oh. Looked around and quickly identified that the floor drain the source of the water. This is where the air conditioner drains to. As hot as it has been the air conditioner had been working overtime.

The question was what to do? Try to fix it myself, or call in the professionals. The drain could potentially be connected to one of my neighbors, so I was relunctant to do anything myself. After consulting with my boyfriend and my parents I decided to call in the professionals. Roto Rooter was on the call. For an extra $30 on Sunday. But they got it unplugged, but it was pricy.

They ended up finding pieces of what looked like clear tape in the drain, which was causing most of the problem. Definetly a gift from a previous owner.

The heat is starting to back off a bit. The dew point when from 75 last night to 49 this afternoon. A huge difference and we will be below 90 later this week. My air conditioner will get a bit of a break as well.

Over the weekend I got my mom hooked on the warsh rags. She did much like I did when I learned the pattern from Lauri. I helped her verbally while she followed the pattern. She completed the first one before she left this weekend. Much like I did before I left Washington.

Back to knitting, watching tv and staying cool.

sizzling weekend

I am playing hooky today. I took Thurs. afternoon off and all of Friday from work. It is nice to have an office job and be able to it with little notice. I spent part of Thurs. afternoon cleaning my house in preparation for my parents' arrival Fri. afternoon.

The rest of the evening was spent at Shawn's house helping him with his large painting project. Four of us worked to get the priming completed. Today Shawn and the gang will probably start the actual painting. Since I will be hosting my parents, I won't be able to help out.

This brings us to the fact that my parents and my boyfriend will be meeting for the first time. I am pretty sure that it will go okay, but there is always that tripidation about 'the first meeting'. We will be going to a Twins baseball game.

Heat and humidty. We are in the middle of our summer heat wave. Lots of humidty and heat. Hibernation and air conditioning will be the favorite things this weekend. I am glad the Twins play in the dome this weekend. I don't like it super hot.

I have finished a scarf that will my friend Alicia's birthday present next week. She picked out the yarn, so I hope that she like it.

Time to go and vacuum the house and wash dishes. The fun never ends...

yes, I am alive

I am alive and well. Just busy with the July 4th weekend and working and going out of town.

I got to enjoy a nice long 4 day weekend over the 4th. I had intended to get some house work done, after all I had 4 days of freedom. However, who want to do anything productive when one could spend time with one's boyfriend. So, that is just what I did. And I had a good time too.

The 4th was actually a very busy day. Shawn is a member of the Sons of the American Legion. The post is located adjacent to the city park in Richfield where most of the city's festivities were going on. As a result the Legion had a variety of food booths set-up. I volunteered/preshed into service and helped out for most of the day. I was in charge when I needed to be and just a helper when I needed to be. It was a fun but exhausting day. I got there around 10:30am and left around 8:20pm. I got home in time to take a quick shower and then watch the fireworks on TV from Boston. A nice way to end the day.

I have came to the conclusion over that weekend that I do not like car racing. I went with Shawn to a race track. Definetly not my thing, but at least I know it for sure. Next time he goes, I will just have a girls night out with friends.

This past weekend I made my second trip to Milwaukee in about a month. This trip was to visit the Art Museum in Milwaukee and an exhibit about Comics and the pioneers of the genre. I found it interesting, though I only spent about a half hour in the exhibit. I waited for Shawn for a good 2 hours while he finished it. I was very good about it. I wanted him to enjoy it, so I did not pressure him to finish quickly. After all that is what the trip was for.

One thing is for sure, next time we want to go to a museum together, I will make sure I have something else planned. So when I am done I can do that and he can enjoy it without worrying about me being bored.

Knitting project update. I am currently working on two simple scarfs. One is for a friend of mine, whose birthday is later this month. She picked out the yarn. It should be done in plenty of time. The other one is really going to be a belt for myself. The yarn should match my jeans and add a nice touch on casual Fridays at work.

My parents will be visiting at the end of the week, so the house cleaning can be delayed no longer. I made good progress on the endless paperwork tonight and tomorrow I hope to sort and start laundry.

A week survived

Just a quick post during my lunch time. I won't be home all weekend.

I survived a busy week at work. Not nearly as bad as Lauri's but, draining none the less. It was record retention time which means that all the records from 2 years ago are being boxed up to be moved. I coordinate everything so all questions come to me. Plus I have to arrange for all of those boxes to be moved. I also get to deal with those things that no one else wants to take responsibility for. Such is life.

Oh, and did I mention I got my performance eval? Let's just say that it was pretty much what I was expecting. Not great, but not too bad. I still have a job and that is the most important part.

Knitting the placemat has been, well, not good. I started working on the 3rd casting, or was it the fourth, I can't remember any more. I was just starting to add the second color and I lost stitches again. I have decided that part of the problem is that the addis are just too fast. So, last night I went to the Yarn Cafe and bought some bamboo needles. I hope that this solves the problem. Oh, and of course I couldn't leave without buying more yarn. I found some nice soft yarn for a wash cloth and then some yarn that was pretty and on sales. I will figure out what to do with it later.

Glad I am a fast typer. I apologize for any typos, but I do not have time to proof this. My lunch is now over.
